Hello,

I own a original PS3 (CHECHA01) that I recently sent in for repair to correct a “YLOD” error. While servicing the console they were able to remove that issue from what I was told, but as the console began to boot up, it shut off completely and lost all power (no red standby light). They claimed that the issue arose on the motherboard, and that there was a small chip/processor that was not communicating with the rest of the unit, and therefore would not turn on or display any power. I thought that it may initially be an issue with the power supply, but they informed me that this was not the case and that it was in good condition. The console had shown a red standby light and would attempt to boot before I sent it in to that company, so I’m not sure if something might have been damaged when they attempted to repair it.

If there is an issue with the chip/processor, would this be repairable with a new part? If so, what would something like that repair cost?

generally depends what the Issue ends up being , many misdiagnose a YLOD and just reflow the board (that can cause more problems than it solves!) there's a chance its related to the Flatpack Caps the PS3 uses. if the previous repair shop just lazily reflow'd, then more than likley if it was those Caps, they are dead now.

for referance these are the caps in question. (image credit to PSX-Palace)
