Alex does your Mechanic charge station go to sleep by any chance i.e the screen goes blank then if you tap the unit it wakes up? I have emailed Mechanic yet to have a reply.

Yes. That's a feature on the station. The display sleeps after a while, it wakes up when you tap it.
