Hi! Noob question. I see you use diode mode a lot, and when you get a short, you get a beep. I don't get that on my cheap one, (only in continuity mode) if I don't miss anything??
Without knowing your specific model, this function may be available. On one of my Fluke meters, I need to specifically enable the beep in diode mode otherwise it remains silent and just shows the value. Yours may be similar. It should have come with a user's guide/manual. Check there too. If you don't have any instructions, post the make and model here and someone may know.

Thank you, i will look up this. It's a cheap one so I'll have to Google it ?
It was this old sucker. Upgraded and now it works. FYI.
The audible tone has nothing to do with diode function check and everything to do with continuity. Some meters separate the two into distinct functions while others put them on the same knob position. Seeing no voltage drop in diode mode would indicate a short/continuity, regardless of if there is a tone or not. There is nothing wrong or right about either setup.
Do remember though that a silicon/germanium diode or other PN junction requires at least half a volt DC to forward bias. If you try to check a PN junction in resistance or continuity mode you'll see it as open because the meter isn't supplying enough voltage to overcome.
Hope this helps,
Dan

I have the same issue with my fluke 18B plus. It doesn't beep on diode mode? image attached!
