Service & Repair Policies

By submitting your device to NorthridgeFix for diagnostics or repair, you explicitly understand and agree to the terms, conditions, and operational risks outlined below.

1. Bench Fee & Repair Attempt Policy

To cover essential labor, operational overhead, and specialized engineering time—while filtering out unviable devices and unfixable “junk” mail-ins—NorthridgeFix enforces a strict mandatory bench fee:

  • What the Bench Fee Covers: This fee covers disassembly, motherboard micro-soldering attempts, reassembly, rigorous testing, customer communication, invoicing, packaging, and shipping preparation.
  • Fixed vs. Unsuccessful Repairs:
    • If the device is fixed: No separate bench fee is charged. You only pay the quoted cost of the successful repair.
    • If the device cannot be fixed (No-Fix): The standard Bench Fee ranging from $45 to $150 remains strictly due. This fee is charged regardless of the device’s market value, its data recovery status, or the exact hours a technician spent troubleshooting it. It automatically applies to all motherboard diagnostics, data recovery files, or hardware with clear signs of prior third-party repair attempts.
  • Local Walk-In Customers: Local customers must pay the baseline Bench Fee (and any requested Expedited Fees) upfront prior to diagnostics. If the repair fails, it is non-refundable. If the repair succeeds, 100% of this prepaid fee applies directly toward your final repair balance.

2. Estimate, Repair Time, & Expedited Service

  • Standard Turnaround: We pride ourselves on the speed of our work, but many variables are beyond our control. Devices are serviced in the exact order received. Our standard repair turnaround time is 2 to 8 weeks. or as stated in our mail-in page. This is a baseline estimate and may extend if the repair is complex, requires special-order parts, or if hidden technical issues arise.
  • Customer Due Diligence: It is the customer’s responsibility to request an estimate ahead of time. Upon receiving your hardware, we assume you wish to proceed with the repair attempt and have done your pricing due diligence. Initial estimates are non-binding; if a price adjustment is needed, all changes must be explicitly approved by you before we proceed with further labor.
  • Expedited Repair Service: For faster turnaround, we offer a priority window of 1 to 9 business days. To use this service, customers must pay a non-refundable $95 expediting fee prior to diagnostics. If we fail to meet the 1–9 business day window (excluding delays caused by waiting for parts), your ticket reverts to the standard timeline, and the $95 fee will be credited to your final invoice as a courtesy.

3. Replacement Parts Procedure

If your repair requires components outside our live inventory, we will contact you before placing an order to explain the necessity, costs, and shipping ETA.

  • Device Holds: If you choose to take your device home while waiting for special-order parts to arrive, a non-refundable 50% deposit of the total parts cost is strictly required. Logistics timelines are outside our control; parts ETAs are best guesses and not contractual deadlines.
  • Customer-Supplied Parts: NorthridgeFix generally does not install parts sourced outside our shop. If an exception is made, our 60-Day Limited Shop Warranty is entirely voided. You explicitly waive all liability for any subsequent device damage caused by faulty, counterfeit, or incompatible customer-supplied hardware.

4. Technical Repair Risks & Liability Waiver

Electronic repairs are unpredictable. Circuit board components naturally deteriorate over time and can fail without warning. By authorizing a repair, you acknowledge the following risks:

  • Permanent Damage Risk: Your device may be beyond repair, or it may become permanently damaged and rendered entirely useless during the diagnostic or repair process. This is especially true for liquid damage devices, where hidden shorts, oxidation, corrosion, and rust continue to spread internally.
  • Glued-on Screen Prying: Accessing internal components often requires prying open delicate, factory-glued screens (such as iPads). While our technicians are highly experienced and breakages are rare, these screens are fragile. Glass can crack or break during removal, and you accept this baseline risk.
  • Biometric & Component Failures: Touch ID or Face ID sensors may fail during repair and become unusable depending on the pre-existing physical condition of the device. Integrated GPUs on laptops and All-in-One (AIO) computers can fail without warning—particularly on older hardware with known GPU problems (e.g., 2011 MacBooks/iMacs, or troubled HP, Dell, and Toshiba models).
  • Manufacturer Warranties: Third-party services performed by NorthridgeFix may void your original manufacturer’s warranty. We accept no liability for voided manufacturer statuses.

5. Data Integrity & Safety Disclaimer

NorthridgeFix does not guarantee the security, safety, or retention of your data. While we take precautions to protect your digital infrastructure, we assume zero liability for data loss, operating system corruption, or file degradation resulting from our services.

  • High-Risk Procedures: If a procedure carries a known elevated risk of data loss, we will inform you of the possibility and offer a separate data backup service at an additional cost.
  • Pre-Repair Backups: Due to the fragile, unpredictable nature of damaged electronics, we cannot predict data behavior in advance. We strongly mandate that you back up all critical files, images, and documents before dropping off or mailing in your device.

6. Payment Terms & Device Abandonment

To secure high-value transactions and prevent merchant fraud, we enforce strict payment boundaries:

  • Invoices Under $200: We accept all major credit and debit cards.
  • Invoices Over $200: For security purposes, balances exceeding $200 must be paid via check, money order, or wire transfer. It is your responsibility to confirm your payment format prior to your device’s release.
  • 30-Day Net Terms: All final invoices must be paid within 30 days of completion notification. NorthridgeFix will issue multiple reminders to your file contact info.
  • Device Recycling (Abandonment): If an invoice remains unpaid after 30 days, the device will be considered abandoned and will be permanently recycled or disposed of to recover shop storage and labor costs.

7. 60-Day Limited Shop Warranty & Exclusions

We back our craftsmanship with a 60-day limited warranty covering the specific services and parts documented on your original work order.

  • Coverage Scope: If the exact issue or symptom documented on the original work order recurs within 60 days of the service completion date, we will perform the labor again at no additional charge.
  • Warranty Void Factors: The shop warranty is immediately voided if the device undergoes physical tampering (cracked screens, casing dents, attempts to open/modify the hardware), user negligence (drops, spills, liquid immersion, electrical spikes from improper grounding), virus/malware infections, or damage caused by using non-original or cheap charging cables.

8. Warranty Claim & Refund Process

  • Re-Repair Attempt: If your device experiences a valid warranty failure within 60 days, you must ship or bring the device back to us. No refunds are issued upfront. We reserve the right to attempt the repair a second time to verify the validity of the component or labor failure.
  • Refund Eligibility: Refunds are issued exclusively if we attempt a warranty repair and determine the underlying hardware is permanently unfixable.
  • Refund Deductions: Approved warranty refunds are subject to a deduction of our baseline repair attempt/bench fee and any required return shipping fees.
  • Warranty Shipping: The customer pays the initial inbound shipping cost to return the device for warranty verification. If the claim is validated as a shop fault, NorthridgeFix will cover the outbound return shipping to your address.

9. Shipping, Logistics, & Packaging Policy

Outbound return shipping parameters strictly follow the explicit delivery instructions and addresses you provide on your digital Mail-In form.

  • Insurance Mandate: Purchasing shipping insurance is the exclusive responsibility of the customer. Failure to secure transit insurance renders all shipping damages, carrier losses, or thefts the sole liability of the customer. NorthridgeFix assumes zero liability for courier faults. If you provide your own prepaid return shipping label, you must embed insurance directly onto it.
  • Generic Packaging Risks: Devices not shipped in their original factory retail packaging face heightened damage risks during transit. If you mail your device to us in a generic box, we will ship it back to you in a generic box entirely at your own risk.
  • Minimum Order Threshold: When an order is placed, the total order value must be equal to or greater than the actual outbound shipping cost. If the final order total amounts to less than the courier shipping fee, NorthridgeFix reserves the right to cancel the order and notify you immediately.
